SOULSPEAK WITH NATURE PHOTOGRAPHER, FLORENT COURTY

" I aspire to be as close to Nature as possible, keep my mind open, show what I see to other people. I want to show the true side of Nature through my images. Because in everyday life, in your home, in cities, you don't see the true face of Nature. Nature is not the tree down your street, it is not the grass in front of your door. It's   deeper, it's impressive, huge, a perfect and harmonious system. And if you search for it as I do, you can live incredible moments in it. Just be open. ... Fairy tales aren't only in books. You can live them on a beautiful autumn misty morning."

 (Florent Courty, 18, France)

He is 18 years old, a self taught photographer, and he lives in the soft mountains of Central France.

I discovered his work while  browsing  photos on Deviantart. The photo he took was so beautiful it inspired me to write a poem. Since then, I always went back to his gallery to pull his photos and share them along with my verses, of course, with his approval. And he had no problems with my request. He openly and proudly shared them with me.

I don't think I have ever seen a gallery as breathtaking as Florent's. All his photos speak to me. I don't think I have ever shared any other photographer's work as much as I have shared his. I am such a fan. Each picture is so alive and captures the soul of the subject, may it be a leaf, a mountain, a set of clouds or the woods. He also showed me a video of the storm chase he participated in, along with a friend, and it was nothing like anything I've seen before. Yes, he's a storm chaser too! (See vid)

There is no denying the gift that this young man has. I only see great things coming for him, and I am blessed to have this chance to share with the rest of the world some of his wonderful insights on Nature, the world we live in, and living our dreams.

Your life in a nutshell.
Since I am young, I'm very much attracted to Nature. I never felt comfortable in society, even in my early days in school. Those feelings have increased with time. I never wanted to "follow the herd". I'm always searching for peace and inspiration outdoors.

How did you start working on photography ?
When I was 14, I started to do some walks in the local woods, with a good friend of mine. We discovered how it can turn  into pure magic at times. We became more and more attracted by this world. I tried to take a picture of what we saw, with an old compact camera, but it was bad and I realized I needed more than words to explain to my friends and family the beautiful things I see in Nature. So I bought a small dslr camera, and I rapidly improved my photographic skills. I was already losing interest in school and couldn't find any conventional work that I could do without getting mad. I was first thinking of going to an art school but I didn't like it, they did only portraits and urban things, mostly grey, pseudo "artistic", it looked very depressing and soul-less to me, and it was very far from Nature in all aspects. So I decided to train myself to become a   photographer, even if that was a hard choice, and even if it wasn't accepted by my parents to this day.

What's your greatest achievement ?
My greatest achievement was to find a way to live that would not encourage me to end up living like a robot. If one day can capture my passion and achievement it would be the 12th of January 2010. I was still studying then, and depressed. I had many problems in school and family. Everything was going wrong that time. On that day I slept just an hour and woke up at 4:00 am with very strange feelings (call it psychic or whatever) I had the strong feeling that instead of going to school, that day I must leave my home and simply head into the local mounts to the highest point. It was a very precise feeling. It was so strong that I did this---It was a harsh winter day, very cold. I walked by night for about 4 hours, I was walking very slow too as the snow was falling, it was hard but I had some incredible energy inside of me that guided me and allowed me to endure the conditions. At the end of the night I was almost at the top, I was in the clouds. And some minutes before sunrise, all the clouds went down a little, so I was just above an infinite sea of clouds and the sun was rising above this sea exactly as I arrived on the top. That was one of the most beautiful moments I've experienced! I took this morning as a strong message, as if Nature sent me a "Do it!". After that day I seriously thought of leaving school and spending my time improving my skills in capturing beautiful scenes like this one.

Your biggest realization, so far.
We should take inspiration from Nature. There is great harmony between every single element in Nature.  I feel it. Everything has its particular role to play in the whole, every living being takes just what it needs to live and everything works well in deep harmony and respect. Our system should not be based on growth or "make as much money as possible"... We have forgotten Nature and all She has to teach, we're killing our world but we can't exist without it. Actually what dominates our world is egotism, and many other human vices, that are promoted every day by TV and many other things, it keeps the people in a very  low vibration so they can accept anything. We should base our system on harmony and respect instead of vices and blindness.

You chase storms too right? Could you say this is your most memorable quest so far?
Indeed, I'm interested in storms. Each season has its beautiful moment, and even if storms can be encountered in any season, it's of course in the summer that they are very common, and they are the main beautiful Meteorologic event that can happen in this season. I'm very interested in Meteorology ... It is necessary if you want to chase the storms.

It is important to have some knowledge about storms before getting in it, because the main danger if you're close to a storm is to misunderstand what is happening and to think you are safe when in fact you are in a dangerous situation. This leads to terrible surprises like close lightning strikes, sudden hail, and so on.

Having said this...You asked me my most memorable quest? There are many! But there's a day this year I will not forget. A friend of mine took me for a chase into the nearest great plains. We saw great storms all the afternoon, but it was during the evening and night that Nature showed us Her fury. A bit after sunset we tried to chase an incredible storm, but we've been eaten by the monster just as we were about to go ahead of it and we got stuck under a violent hail fall, followed by enormous rain fall and many many lightnings. A bit after this, we saw the firemen, the storm caused some damages.

Then, a new storm came from West, it rapidly grew in size, it was as strong as the last one. This time I was able to capture the storm's structure, totally awesome : http://fav.me/d3uorr8

It was taken on the 12th  July of this year. Many super cell storms crossed my region and caused serious damages, mainly due to large hail and wind.

Your dreams and aspirations.
I dream of the rebirth of a new, totally different system, where we would have a very different way of living... in harmony with the world we live in, with deep respect with Nature and between ourselves. Actually I aspire to be as close to Nature as possible, keep my mind open, show what I see to other people. I want to show the true side of the Nature through my images. Because in everyday life, in your home, in cities, you don't see the true face of Nature. Nature is not the tree down your street, it is not the grass in front of you door. It's deeper, it's impressive, huge, a perfect and harmonious system. And if you search for it as I do, you can live incredible moments in Nature. Just be open !Fairy tales aren't only in books, you can live them on a beautiful autumn misty morning.

Your next steps.
I'm planning a website  with my brother, you can see his works here : http://maximecourty.deviantart.com/. He's a photographer as well and we are sort of a team. We plan to do a common website as we work together more. The French Laws are particularly boring concerning the image sale and it slows us very much at this moment, but I assure you, it will not stop us.

Do you have other passions aside from photography?
Yes! As mentioned I'm really  interested in Meteorology. It's quite essential in Nature photography for me as the weather conditions are very important. It helps me very much to find the beautiful moments, but of course... magic can't be predicted.

I'm interested in plants too and more particularly in the art of Bonsai. I'm fascinated by the world of vegetation. Sure they have a very different way of living. But they do feel things, and have a very particular perception of their environment, the communicate with air, and do have emotions.... and even tastes I'd say : there exists a plant (desmodium gyrans) that "dances" if it listens to music. Seriously, the leaves move delicately if the plant listens to music. It does not react to other sounds, no matter how loud loud. A plant who can distinguish the difference between noise and music and then moves along with it. Amazing, isn't it?  There are tons of other examples of interesting things like this in the plant world.

Now, about bonsai, just a few words to describe it... bonsai isn't a specie of tree as some people may think. It's the art of shaping and miniaturizing a tree, whatever the specie you use. You can start from seeds and be much more patient, or take a little tree in nature and then you can enhance it in a few years. There are tons of bonsai styles and forms. You shape it along the years, you choose which face your bonsai will have : You compose it like an image, but the beauty here is that you do it with something living, it has a true soul, and it evolves and gets better with time. There exists some wonderful living pieces of art, and of course each one is unique. It's the ultimate kind of art for me. I started working on some bonsai a year ago but I already expect them to look almost fully grown in 2 - 3 years. It's pretty fun to "build" your tree along the years, and very satisfying to see its evolution.

Your thoughts on LOVE.
If we speak for human beings : Strong and warm feeling of passion, inspiring a deep admiration and mutual respect, and providing a lot of energy - it's the case for me and my girlfriend at least. But sadly love has been forgotten by many people nowadays...

If you had ONE MESSAGE to the whole world what would it be?
BE OPEN ! Simply enjoy the true beauty of Nature ! Looking at Her you will understand that peace and harmony exists, and that we can live in harmony between us and with the world we are in.

Have a Blessed 2012!!

Be yourself. Do what you love. BE in love. Be inspired. Pray. Enjoy the company of your family and friends, but spend time with yourself too. Spend time with a stranger. Keep your senses open, everyone is a teacher and everything is a lesson. Laugh as much as you can. Cry as much as you can. Ask questions. Be vigilant but be responsible for it. Forgive your past and release it with love. Give thanks for blessings that will come your way. Seize the day and have fun. Dream... And whatever you do, don't forget to breathe.

Have a blessed 2012.  ♥

Heal Your Shadows

The earth is changing and because we belong to this earth we are changing too. Some of us will be open to these changes, but some of us will not be because they do not listen with their hearts, they do not see with their souls. Those who do not see the beauty behind this collective evolution will see it all as destruction, and because they have trapped the light that flows from within they will see only darkness to come, and find ways and means to convince us that the earth will come to and end soon, but know in your heart that every sunrise is the beginning and every sunset the end of a great cycle, have no fear, turn on your inner light it is there, and you know this too. Judge no one, for you have been in the dark too... what you see is your own shadow, but be the light to others who need your love and help them. Heal your shadows.... Help everyone for in your service you will reap your joys. Be the change you want to see, you are always changing, embrace this change as strength to your soul, and show others that we are all made to persist.

Onwards and upwards... Have a blessed New Year's Eve my loves.

The Only Love There Is (A Poem)

I stopped asking myself
whether or not your Love
is worth it,
or if it brings out
the best or the worst in me,
whether or not you're the right person
or the wrong person for me...
None of that matters to me,
because none of the answers exist
until we both make them exist
That's right darling...
The only Love there is,
is the Love we make
and the only thing that's real
is the Love we feel
So let's make it real....

If You Want A Simpler Life, Know Yourself

Life is simple, it only gets complicated once we start to set limitations, or when we start worrying about what others think about us. And a lot of us love to give our power to outside forces away like that, for so many reasons only we know -- the biggest of which is fear of failure, not knowing that the fear of failure is worst than failing itself. At least when we fall down, we know right away that the only way to go is to get back up. But if we can't even take the risk, we'll end up in limbo, not knowing where to go. Lost and restless in the abyss we created. Life is static, comfortable, it never changes.

When we take a step out of our comfort zone, sure we will push our limits, and we may feel all the discomforts that come with change, but at least we're growing. And by that I mean learning, and becoming aware of the miracles that come our way-- they are all there to teach us something about ourselves and in the end knowing ourselves is really the most important thing because if we know ourselves we know what we want, we know where we are and where we need to go, and we know our power to change and grow. And we will realize that life truly is less complicated once we take full responsibility for it.

1 Min Reflection: THE SECRET GARDEN BLOOMS WITHIN

In fear of rejection we project that fear and suddenly walls are built to keep us free from perceived harm, but this freedom can only cripple us.
There is no peace in paralysis. Enslaved within the fortress we create, we wallow in solitude, and blame the world for our sorrows and inadequacies. No one can get through, for there is no will to reach out. The karmic cycle is sustained, and the pain goes on.

A long conviction of lack builds strong walls. The only way out of it is to to let go, to break free from the illusions, to listen to ask oneself : "What is real? What is true? What does my heart tell me, right now at this very moment?", To listen , and trust in one's heart... forgive one's past and forgive oneself first and foremost. To have love, for the life that IS... To have love, for the person that one IS.

We are our own villains and our own heroes. The only thing that separates a curse from a blessing is choice. We have the power to let the light out, and let it in. There is a secret garden blooming within, and for the world to see it, we must first be willing to open the eyes of our soul, our true eyes, if only to see that there is no void, only abundance, flowing from a place of free and Infinite Love.

MUSIC (A Poem)

Music is the most faithful lover
Music is eternal, immortal
It whispers forever
Music is the voice
and the wish of a heart
Music is who I am
and who you are
Music makes my soul
fall on its knees
and gaze at the stars....

A Message of HOPE: My Only Wish for This Season and in 2012

My dear loves,

This holiday season and for this coming year 2012 I wish for no other gift but the gift of HOPE, for my family and yours, for we all all brothers and sisters. I wish you never lose hope in the rising of the sun, or in the blooming of flowers, the passing of the storm, and the beauty of the hour... I wish you never lose hope in your very breath that reminds you of what matters most.

More than all this I wish you never lose hope in YOU, when you have hope in you you have hope in all of humanity... Nothing is lost, nothing has failed, and nothing has really ended as long as you have hope for humanity. In all you do, and in all that you go through. I wish you hope...No matter how harsh or painful or seemingly senseless some events are ,no matter how seemingly heartless some people are, they are all a reflection, and an extension of you. Humanity will not heal, until we heal ourselves. Humanity will never change until we change ourselves....and love can only flow freely, in our lives if we begin to love ourselves.

I wish you find that spark of light in your soul that guides your movement and pace, there is always a reason to move on...Life is movement. With hope there is light in the end of the tunnel, the middle and start, that light is YOU.

With hope, life always begins at the present moment. There is no fault in the night that the dawn cannot make right.

May we all be filled with hope.. for when we come to a point where we seem to have nothing, hope becomes everything.

Love you all,
Juno

OUT OF SIGHT BUT NEVER OUT OF MIND

Some people say that the greatest test for two people in love is distance. Well, I don't agree with that entirely. Sure it's hard to come to terms with the reality that you might be alone for a very long period or that you may suffer at times thinking if the wait is worth it.

It's not easy to ease hunger of the flesh. But not a lot of us see the romance in this longing .... the beauty in having that silent moment with yourself, where you can reflect... contemplate on what to say to your loved one before saying it, write poems, notes that capture the true essence of your message, talk on the phone and speak without the distractions that could take place when you are together, catching the magic and light that one sends out to the other when you send a prayer, an intention, or even just sing a song that reverberates in the air... to truly listen to each other's hearts while distant from each other... is a great gift in itself. And the loneliness is beautiful, for it is only happiness that is waiting to be shared.

The greatest test is the physical union. Because at this point any loneliness can no longer be attributed to solitude, there is no reason to feel lonely when in each other's arms, staring into each other's eyes... And if there is a reason, the person must be willing to confront this truth, and face the fact that there is a void somewhere, and be willing to fill that void, and work things out, or at least be honest enough to tell the other that there is an opportunity in the relationship, and it might even offend the other... but it is necessary for both to learn, to and grow.

I doubt if everyone is ready for this, most of us pretend we are not hurting, or pretend we are not bothered by something, because the other might call it drama, or tell us to quit being emotional. A lot of us get used to putting up masks if only to save the relationship. Masks are dangerous, and we all know why. Sooner or later, masks wear off, we will all have to spill the beans, and we will all have to pay the price for in the end, what is done in the dark, what is done behind walls and veils will soon be revealed, and will soon come into light. In the end, it's always better to be straightforward and honest about these feelings, because emotions can only bottle up and burst if not expressed.

So my message really is this, distance is not that bad... the hunger of the heart will always exceed the hunger of the flesh, it is what keeps the fire burning and it is this hunger that keeps us alive and in love... whether or not we are apart from each other, or sitting right next to each other.

Slowly Like A Rain of Tears (A Poem)

Today I will let love's sweet rain
Wash over my soul,
Slowly
Like a rain of tears,
As I rest in silent prayer,
for the storm to calm
I give thanks for the moment
I celebrate
as I banish all fears,
I am lost
but I am lost with you
I trust
for our love will light the way
and this soul embrace
will spark our faith

Be Inspired... Be In Love!

I learned that no matter how scary or shitty life gets, I always come out of it alive. Of course, the illusion of death or dying is only prolonged when fear steps in and blocks my true vision. But inspiration clears the path of roadblocks... Love opens the eyes of my soul, to the truth and beauty of the world at large. So my goal is to seek inspiration, to find a reason to be in love, and alive each day... there's always a reason.

LET'S PAINT THE SKY WITH STARS

We live in a world where it's easier to convince people that there are wars going on than there is redemption, where the iron fist is more necessary than the handshake, when it comes to solving problems... Where aggression is exciting and kindness is boring....Where being ahead in life is more important than being aware in life... Where gratitude is replaced by regret... Where we would rather be safe, and secure in our shells, than struggling to come out of it...Where we would rather look at a million reasons not to chase our dreams, than to see that one spark of hope, that tells us why the dream is worth it... Chained by our learned helplessness...we wallow in the chambers of our past and curse the dark night, than to see the light in our souls. We live in a world where it takes so much courage to shine, and be our true selves.

It doesn't really bother me that we are in duality, for we have chosen this experience, it is the only way we can learn the lessons and manifest the virtues placed on our hands by our ancestors, and those before them. What tugs my heart, honestly is that so many of us know this, and yet so many of us pretend that it isn't happening. A lot of us would rather sit comfortably in the prison of our minds than run free and take risks in the paradise of our hearts. Waiting for a certain salvation to occur when salvation is something we can create in our daily lives, every minute counts and every day a chance to be the change that we wish to see.

All the great teachers of history, Ghandi, The Beatles, Buddha, Christ, Einstein, Lao Tzu, Confucius, Tagore, Gibran, MLK, Mother Teresa, etc... regardless of what cause they were fighting for, walked in one common ground, the HEART... In sharing their souls they let the energy of love flow freely in their life and work, so free that the energy still lives... it reaches us today. This is light, my friends... diffusing across infinite channels, beyond the constructs of space...and time. This is the miracle of love.

If I had one wish for the world right now, it would be this. To see us breaking away from our perceived limitations... changing fear, instead of fearing change... I long to see this energy coming out of our shells... freely ... To see more of us, if not all, channeling the truth of our hearts... for when we love... ourselves , and the self we see in others... When we truly love... We become stars, and the night can only make us paint a lovely darkness.

Life Always Begins Today

Two things I know for certain, death and change... and there is no escaping both, even if I try. I can only prepare for what's to come, with Faith, Hope, and Love in my heart.

With Faith in the Mystery, Hope for the Truth, and Love for My Life.... I am able to live each day as if it was my first , with new joy and enthusiasm. I live each day like this so I will never have to give up my dreams.

Coming Home With Our Emotions by Jordan Walker

If you are afraid; you are not alone. If you are sad, angry, or feeling isolated; once again you are not alone. I see a lot of posts that refer to these emotions as negative, that they bring you down or that you cannot exist in higher vibration within these states. This comes from a dual perspective, and in my experience these emotions are in fact the completion of what we call counterpoint emotions... Why would empathy be the greatest evolutionary trait if we were not designed to feel these emotions? Do not resist feeling an emotion for the sake of being afraid that it is not of the highest vibration. It is there for you to grow because we are all in this together. Whether this emotion is from the Self you call YOU or from the separate Self it all belongs to the Unified Self. You would not feel this emotion if not to learn how to embrace it for the benefit of the Eternal Self. Consider whether you are judging your emotions or welcoming them home.

You are the Source in whatever facet you wish to view it.

Namaste.

YOUR LOVE IS THE SUNLIGHT (A Poem)

Your Love is the sunlight
the gentle fire
that flickers in my veins
and in my skies
In the morning of our eyes
and sets calmly
as the hour of slumber nears,
our soul departs,
but never disappears.

With a touch of your fingers
my world is alive
for all I know is your warmth
and all I see is your light
I longed for you all my life...

And though the Evergreen
has faded
and the shadows have appeared,
I revel at the moment
And call on you
With a prayer and a song
I give thanks
for the sunset and the dawn
with whose rays
your love has journeyed
and whose warmth
has pierced through my heart

Our paradise lives on

"RISKS" by Janet Rand

To laugh is to risk appearing the fool,
To weep is to risk being called sentimental.
To reach out to another is to risk involvement.
To expose feelings is to risk showing your true self.
To place your ideas and your dreams before the crowd
is to risk being called naive.
To love is to risk not being loved in return,
To live is to risk dying,
To hope is to risk despair,
To try is to risk failure

But risks must be taken, because the greatest risk in life is to risk nothing.
The person who risks nothing, does nothing, has nothing, is nothing, and becomes nothing.

He may avoid suffering and sorrow, but he simply cannot learn, feel, change, grow or love.
Chained by his certitude, he is a slave; he has forfeited his freedom.

Only the person who risks is truly free.

Silver and Stardust (A Poem)

Ever so radiant horizon's line
Silver and Stardust bequeathed in time
Kissing and merging in sunset and dawn
Ever so pure our essence is drawn

WHY WE FORGET OUR DREAMS (A quote from Zahir, by Paulo Coelho)

"Esther asks why people are sad."

‎"That's simple" says the old man. "They are the prisoners of their own personal history. Everyone believes that the main aim in life is to follow a plan. They never ask if the plan is theirs or if it was created by another person. They accumulate experiences, memories, things, other people's ideas, and it is more than they can possibly cope with. And that is why they forget their dreams."

ONE DAY (A Poem)

One day
You will come here
And you will not find me
When that day comes
I want you to be happy for me
For that will be the day
That He has found me

The Sign That Sets Us Free

When you feel lost and broken that is usually a signal that you are letting go of what no longer serves you. Have faith in what life has in store for you. New worlds, new love, new life. Just let it go and let things be.... the pain you feel can only set you free.

Your Life, Your Truth

Some people will dedicate their lives telling others how to live their own lives , how not to be a slave to a system, how to live independently and free, and they will have the most genuine and noble intentions for doing so too. But if you come to think of it, they are just creating another dependency, and if we have to depend on their expertise to awaken and fix our lives for us then we have yet again chosen to be enslaved to a new system. A new illusion.

I remember a quote by Rob Inthe Pagefamily in my last interview with him and he goes:

"I continue to walk the path I believe is right for me and ask that people do not believe a word I say. Go figure out the truth for yourself. Go do your own thing. Go follow your own heart and work everything out for yourself. When we do that, we will co-create something bigger and better than anything we have done in the past."

... couldn't have said it better.

Write What You Feel

There was a time when I was extremely cautious about my writing and I tried to say what people wanted to hear, even if that wasn't exactly how I felt at the moment, because it was quoted by some well-known author or that it sounded profound.

When I gave up doing that , when I started to experiment, and write about what I was going through or what I feel at the moment... even if it means exposing my wounds and scars, my weaknesses. Only then was I truly able to set myself free.

It's so important to listen to our hearts and to heed its call. Any other way is prison.

Soulspeak With Tuan Tran: Creator of WIREWEAR

"Our society produces things in excess, consumes things in excess and discards things in excess.  The planet which is our home, is suffering due to this. In my small way I translate discarded excess into beauty. We only get one earth, and we only get one life... We and the planet are connected and need to demonstrate our appreciation."

Weaving the Colors of the Earth

Recently I had a chance to witness a showcase of just some of the most interesting creations in the Bay Area fashion scene. I also had the great pleasure of having lunch with the designer himself - Tuan Tran. He calls his works WireWear. Outfits made of used telephone wires mainly. Actively involved in the art industry for 25 years, Tuan is a credentialed Ikebana teacher and has performed demonstrations, exhibits and workshops around the world. Tuan weaves fine works of art from various recycled materials. The subject matter of his art is as varied as the materials he uses and includes decorative art and art pieces that carry a message conveyed through the composition of materials.

On the day we met he brought along one of his models, Hilario, who proudly wore one of his works... It was a vest that adorned predominant shades of blue and purple... An odd yet strikingly creative, stunning and intricately woven piece of clothing that really draws attention. I can't tell how many hotel guests, mostly women came up to us after seeing it just to touch it and see it up close. Tuan, who sat right next to Hilario happily presented his creation to everyone who approached us and was kind enough to accommodate the ladies who requested for photos with them. I have always been fascinated with people who create something new out of old stuff because it shows 3 very important characteristics :  innovation , a great regard for the preservation of the planet and lastly passion. I believe that this passion for creating beautiful , meaningful and lasting pieces have really made him who he is today, driven, young-at heart and fancy-free, full of energy and love for life and a genuine desire to connect with the world. It's true, just follow your heart and joy will follow you too. I only hope that many more will follow their hearts just like Tuan -- a man who is out to prove the world that fashion can be meaningful too, and that it can carry the message of the Earth in every work of art.

Tell me about your creations.
WireWear began as wire sculptures made from recycled telephone wire. I have an affinity to colors, bright and varied. I have an affinity for the unconventional, but also the practical. Practical from various standpoints. I believe in protecting the earth's resources. I believe art is something that each person decides whether it is beautiful or not. I believe in making beautiful art from materials that are discarded or considered "scrap". WireWear evolved from the idea of creating beautiful forms from materials that were neglected and not valued. Telephone wires opened my gift of being able to craft wearable creations.

I'm interested to know how it all began-- Your roots. Growing up years.
I was born and grew up in Saigon ( now called Ho Chi Minh city) in Vietnam. As a young boy, in 1975,  I was a boat person, taking a 2 month boat trip to America was a delicious adventure.  I was a "refuge" in the US and spent my younger years as a specimen of the goal to assuage the guilt of the Vietnam war. I am grateful to call the US my home. It always gave me opportunities, possibilities and challenges, and most of all freedom. Freedom to be who or what I really am. I never again would have to compromise my spirit, and I have lived my life from with the thought that all life is precious. WireWear in fact has roots in my helping my grandfather weave fishing nets as a young boy in Vietnam.

What was your greatest challenge in the creation of this work so far. How did you overcome this?
Having never created a garment before, learning to make a dress or jacket was a huge challenge. I discovered "dress forms" to help with the process. The process of making my vision a reality was the biggest challenge, meaning crafting WireWear. Another challenge is materials, which can not be acquired from traditional stores, so I am out at scrap yards and other places to find the materials to construct WireWear.

Your work speaks to me. I really support anything that supports the GREEN revolution. I am happy that you have the same drive for Mother Earth.
One of my goals was to demonstrate that beauty can be created from materials that our society no longer values, such as wire. Many of my art works beyond WireWear use 100% recycled materials from CD's, LP's, thread, frames, printed images - all of which are considered scrap. It is a situation where our society produces things in excess, consumes things in excess and discards things in excess.  The planet which is our home, is suffering due to this. In my small way I translate discarded excess into beauty. We only get one earth, and we only get one life we and the planet are connected and need to demonstrate our appreciation.
Of course copper wire has an economic value, but only for its metal content not its beauty. I have sought to craft items and garments that are viewed as beautiful, and causes people to say "what is that made of?", and "how did you do that". These are not garments made of discarded paper cups with plastic spoons glued to them. WireWear is Couture and has been worn on the red carpet in many fashion shows. Green can be good.

Where do you find inspiration ? What motivates you to go on?
To me, success is being able to live my life on my terms. I wake up every morning with a new idea for a creation. Each of my WireWear creations are completely unique as individual "Sculptures" in fact a local publication last week called them "Sculptures' to slip into". The essence of WireWear is wearable art, hand crafted to exude beauty, and make the person a "work of art". I find inspiration in the most unlikely of places such as scrap metal yards, and 2nd hand stores ( now called "vintage" ). I find inspiration in the beauty of nature. I find inspiration in the simple act of creating.

If you weren't in Fashion, where would you be?
Having a successful career in the Real Estate business since 1991, and previous to that I was a cost accountant in Silicon Valley. My real estate business is thriving, with the fashion and art world as the elixir that gives me motivation to keep going. Creating value whether in the economic sense, or aesthetic sense is what drives me. If I was not in the middle of Fashion, I would be where I am, which is not a bad  place.

Your last show was amazing...what are your future plans? Aspirations?
Since my self-produced show on November 26,2011, I was the featured local designer at a major fashion show in San Jose the Valle Monte Fashion show ( December 1st and  2nd 2011) in conjunction with the Donald J. Pliner company. The week previous to my show, on November 19th I was featured as the local fashion designer at the Artumnal Burning Man show produced by Black Rock Arts Foundation and Steven Raspa, held at The Bently Reserve - San Francisco California. I aspire to appealing to a wide audience, from the Burners (Burning Man), to red carpet couture. My WireWear work resonates with people of all age groups, colors and economic strata. Having interest and inquiry about WireWear from all parts of the planet gives me the aspiration to fulfill my vision. This is a world that is unpredictable, WireWear is the aspiration. Showing the world my work is my ultimate aspiration.

If you can describe the future in one word -- how would you describe it?:
BRIGHT.

Do you see any more materials other than telephone wires that you are looking to create into new pieces? I also incorporate other materials which are recycled such as satin lace, leather strips, clear coat copper wire, clear coat aluminum wire into WireWear. While telephone wire is the basis and soul of the WireWear creations, I do not limit myself in discovering, incorporating other materials to further my vision.

Who are your influences? People you truly admire?
I admire people who have made a positive difference in the world. When Frank Sinatra refused to appear in Las Vegas without Sammy Davis Jr. in the 1960's he made a gesture more powerful than the 1 Million Man march on Washington DC to combat racism. When Marcel Duchamp created "The Fountain" (a urinal)  in 1917, and signed it R. Mutt, he redefined what art is. The influences which help me craft WireWear are as diverse as the iterations of the work. Oh, I also admire all of the fashion beacons such as Gautier, Yohji Yamamoto,  Alexander McQueen,  Walter Van Beirendonck, Steve Jobs (the technology fashion god.. you can quote me on that) and our President Barack Obama, and of course my uncle Ho Chi Minh. Life is colorful and I am here to bring color and innovation to the fashion world. My favorite movie is "Antie Mame", where Rosalind Russell said in 1958, and I quote: "Live, Live Live, Life is a banquet, and most poor suckers are starving to death! "

Your ONE message to the world.
Relax, have fun, stay true to yourself.... no matter what people tell you...
Life is not black and white. Life is colorful. Live a colorful life !
